“Painting is a second career for me. I started painting in 1989 and attended my first watercolor workshop during the summer of 1990. I have attended numerous workshops and classes since then, but my principal teachers are Robert Reynolds, Professor of Art/Emeritus, of Cal Poly University, and Santa Cruz artist Elizabeth Kincaid. I retired early from my law teaching position at the University of British Columbia in 1995, and have devoted my time to painting since then. During the past ten years family, friends, and teachers have helped me immeasurably by offering their supportive criticism, for which I am very grateful.”
“I paint to celebrate life and the wonder and beauty that surround us every day. Whether my subject is a waterfall, a mountain lake, or a flower growing amidst the ruins, what I am trying to express is the joy I felt when I first saw it.”
