Kelly Campbell of KCPuppetree: "Mike Mulligan & His Steam Shovel" and "The Little House" at Puppets' Night Out
For this week's Puppets' Night Out, we welcome back the wonderful Kelly Campbell of KCPuppetree. KC will present two stories by Virginia Lee Burton: "The Little House" and "Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel." This Saturday, Shae Uisna Puppets present, "The Revenge of the Terrible Black Snake," a puppet show with rod and hand puppets. A timid man named Badger must make a dangerous journey to collect an inheritance from his uncle, and in the process, must confront some of his worst fears. Unexpected humor and bravery save the day and make for marvelous storytelling! Guitar accompaniment by John Daniel Teply.
Shae Uisna, BA Loyola Marymount University, MA in Theatre, Portland State University. A Fulbright Scholar, Ms Uisna studied puppetry and masked performance in Indonesia. Shae Uisna's work integrates masked performance with shadows, rod puppets and slide projections.
Ms. Uisna's directing and performance highlights include, "Three from Elee: An Underwater Shadow Puppet Ballet," "Haroun and the Sea of Stories," "Petronella," "Bitchin'tella," "Everyman," "Baba, Flight of the Monkey King," and "Goblin Market." Ms. Uisna has received fellowships from the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center to produce her work, "Songs From The Three Penny Opera"; been a touring puppeteer with Tears of Joy Puppet Theater and a regular performer at the Oregon Country Fair; and has taught at numerous universities throughout the Pacific Northwest. She is currently the Director of Theater at Atelier Gallery in St Johns, Oregon and is the Vice President of the Columbia Association of Puppeteers.
"Puppets' Night Out" is a family-friendly puppet and mask performance-series at Puppet Central in Atelier Gallery St Johns, North Portland, Oregon, that features talented performers from the Portland and Vancouver areas. Most performances are followed by a puppet craft and are recommended for children ages 3 and up. Tickets are $7.
